For nearly 20 years, JT Johnson has worked in and around strategic communications, public advocacy, and nonprofit strategy. 

JT’s work across digital content creation, news, public relations, and audience engagement strategy have often been in service to nonprofits and philanthropic institutions such as the ACLU of Maryland, Open Society Institute of Baltimore, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, and notably, the Make It Work Campaign. Their experience also includes roles at major networks like CNN, Discovery, Gannett, and NBC Washington, where JT developed deep expertise in digital content strategy and narrative production. 

In 2017, JT helped launch The League. The League works at the intersection of politics and culture helping brands, creatives, and changemakers design strategy for social impact. She landed the organization’s first of two Webby Award nominations in 2022, through her work developing Full Set Society, a “no-code switch” civic lifestyle community for Black and Brown women and femmes, and drove the audience research that powers Black On Purpose, the organization’s newest civic lifestyle community.

JT has a knack for gleaning, not simply actionable, but evocative insights that drive memorable and lasting impact. 

She has been invited to share her expertise and thought leadership with esteemed changemakers and strategists from the broadest swaths of culture and politics. She’s presented to state and local lawmakers at the invitation of the White House Office of Digital Strategy under President Barack Obama; LUSH Cosmetics USA during their inaugural LUSH House at SXSW in 2023; Progress Now’s Commference; leaders in philanthropy, marketing, AI, and more.  

JT holds a B.S. in TV/Radio/Film production from Syracuse University, with minors in Entrepreneurship and African American Studies, and a public relations certificate from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in London. In summer 2024, they graduated from the Future London Academy’s Executive Programme for Design Leaders, a year-long alternative MBA program boasting less than 30 design professionals across five continents.

As of 2025, JT is building LADY—BULL, an aesthetic data consultancy and creative studio. 

They spend their time between the DMV and the EU.
